Chemical resistance of AXIS I7020 Network Intercom to common cleaning agents

January, 2026

Introduction

Network intercoms can be used in environments where hygiene requirements are rigorous or in cleanrooms. Cleaning could be required daily or even several times a day.

This white paper presents the recommended cleaning and disinfectant procedure for AXIS I7020 Network Intercom and shows the testing that Axis has done to verify that the intercom withstands this procedure.

Cleaning simulation tests

We’ve performed tests to simulate repeated daily cleaning over several years.

The chemicals we’ve used are:

  • Isopropanol (70%)

  • Hydrogen peroxide (3%)

  • Sodium hypochlorite (< 5%)

Samples of the AXIS I7020 Network Intercom front plate were mounted in a piece of automated test equipment that repeatedly swiped the samples with a soft cloth saturated with the selected chemical. The swipes were done using a pressure typical for cleaning, and the cloth was resaturated regularly. The samples were tested for a minimum of 5500 cycles, which corresponds to multiple wipedowns per day for five years.

Setup for the cleaning simulation. The samples were swiped with a cloth mounted on an automatic movable arm. The cloth was regularly resaturated with the chemical.

After completed testing, we evaluated the samples for scratches, cracks, discoloration, wear of logotype, and other defects.

Test results

The test results showed that AXIS I7020 Network Intercom can withstand cleaning multiple times per day for at least five years with the tested chemicals.

The front plate of the intercom withstands regular and frequent chemical wipedown with a soft cloth. There is no chemical reaction between the front plate material and the recommended cleansers. Even with daily chemical wipedowns the physical integrity of the intercom is maintained.
